Ayesha Takia’s husband restaurateur Farhan Azmi, son of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Asim Azmi, is all set to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India, according to party sources. He is said to be pitted opposite the Congress’s Milind Deora, the sitting MP from Mumbai South. If Farhan does agree to contest then it will be one of those rare occasions when a father and son duo has contested in the same elections.

Farhan toed the safe diplomatic line when he said, “At this point there is no clarity on this subject. I have not been informed about this, but there are speculations. My father or our party general secretary Amar Singh are the best people to comment on this.”

Asked whether his star bahu Ayesha will also hit the campaign trail, Abu Azmi said, “I don’t think stars should be used in campaigns.” Incidentally, Jaya Bachchan, Jaya Prada, Sanjay Dutt and Nafisa Ali are all campaigning for the Samajwadi Party.

Azmi countered this with, “Yes, they are stars, but they have been working for the common man. They have proved that they are into social service.” Right! But according to some family members, Ayesha is not being involved because Farhan’s family, especially his mother, were not happy with the Farhan-Ayesha nikah.
