A serial killer is on the loose and the finger of suspicion points to a bubbly, harmless girl. The whole mystery could be solved if the cop investigating the case could find a missing Sunday.

Director Rohit Shetty’s movie ‘Sunday’ is a comedy film with a good dose of suspense thrown in. The film stars Ajay Devgan, Ayesha Takia, Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan and Anjana Sukhani.

Don’t miss the movie’s slideshow (story in pictures) at Sunday .

Character Sketches

Ayesha Takia as Seher
She can imitate a thousand different cartoon characters and that’s what makes her such a wanted dubbing artiste. Then she finds herself ‘wanted’ in a different sense altogether – by gangsters, by taxi drivers and by the cops – as a murder suspect.

Ajay Devgan as ACP Rajvir Randhava
He is the brave, bad cop, who loves his ice cream cones as much as he loves chasing criminals. But what he loves most is letting them off for a hefty bribe! Then suddenly Rajvir finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery where the prime suspect is none other that his fiancée – Seher!

Arshad Warsi as Ballu
His red Ambassador taxi is just like him – bright, optimistic and full of beans. He has no hassles about stuffing too many tourists into his taxi or giving a lift to a strange, giggling girl in the middle of the night. What does bug him is when the girl disappears without paying him his fare.

Irrfan Khan as Kumar
Kumar is Ballu’s bum chum and budding actor. He can play lawyer, Ravan, Dracula, don at the drop of a hat. But when he meets a girl who claims she’s a dead woman, he drops all his acts and scoots like hell.

Storyline

A dead body found floating in a lake… Unexplained scratch marks on her neck… Supari killers out to kill her… A taxi driver who yells ‘bhoot, bhoot’ every time he sees her.

Seher is at first amused, then mystified and then terrified when she realizes she has a connection with all these totally unconnected incidents. But she cannot remember anything.

Seher’s fiancé Rajvir Randhava is convinced that she is innocent, but he is also equally sure that she is linked to everything. But she cannot remember a goddamn thing.

Then another dead body is found. And the bracelet found near the dead body belongs to Seher. The evidence is mounting and all fingers point towards Seher. And still, she cannot remember a darn thing.

Is Seher really as innocent as she claims to be? Is she a dubbing artiste by day and a serial killer by night? Is her bubbling charm but a mask that hides her darker and menacing self?

As Sehar desperately fights the fog that clouds her treacherous memory, ACP Rajvir has to fight the fact that the woman he wants to marry may well be a murderer and worse.

What if one day went missing from your life?

‘Sunday’ also features cameo appearances by Esha Deol and Tusshar Kapoor .

The movie has six songs (apart from remixes), each one composed by a different composer. Of all the numbers, Sandeep Chowta’s title song “Missing Sunday” is the best.

Produced by Kumar Mangat and Sunil Lulla, ‘Sunday’ has been shot in India and Australia. The film is directed by Rohit Shetty.

‘Sunday’ is slated to release on January 25, 2008.

Its been a long and arduous week…what with all the codes that I had to review (and do a good job at it too)…plans that I had to not only prepare, but also get approved…appraisal…
I remember the first thing I told the first person I met in office on the first day of the week…”I want to go back home”
The only thing that kept me going through all this was the fact that it was going to be a short 4-day week, with a holiday almost in the middle of the week (Thursday, Oct 2, Gandhi Jayanti)…I almost screamed out (yaaaayyyyyy!!!! Today is over and its a holiday tomorrow) when I finished the last of yesterday’s meetings at 5 pm…

The whole of today felt like it was a Saturday (getting up late, badminton…). While returning home after a very satisfying game of badminton, I realized that I have to go to office tomorrow. Felt a little cheated, almost like Ayesha Takia must have felt in the movie “Sunday”, where her Sunday is missing…
However, dint take me long to realize that I should be happy, after all tomorrow is Friday and theres still a Saturday n Sunday left this week….

Go ahead, make your date. In Bewafaa and Tashan Anil Kapoor wants to marry Kareena Kapoor.

And in Sunday 20-something Ayesha Takia paired up with the pushing-40 Ajay Devgan for some laughs. At least Ajay and Ayesha paired for a parody.

But what about the 50-plus Anil Kapoor with the 26-year old Kareena Kapoor in Bewafaa ? There was a justification for this oddball coupling. She was the second-wife, somewhat like Kamal Haasan’s under-age bride Vasundhara Das in the awesomely underrated Hey Ram. Shockingly Kamalji offered the child-bride’s role to his dear friend Randhir Kapoor’s daughter Kareena who was at that time barely 20.

In South it’s common practice for matinee idols to pair themselves with actresses half their age. Now when I hear the 59-year old legend Rajnikanth is going to be paired with our own mythic Aishwarya Rai, I can’t suppress my giggles.

Rajni Sir has a daughter named Aishwarya. He doesn’t have a daughter named Sriya Saran, though. The talented 26-year old was the stalwart’s heroine in his last blockbuster. They weren’t alone. Remember Salman Khan with the teenage Ash looklike in Lucky? Just a few months ago Shah Rukh Khan was seen serenading Deepika Padukone. Though the self-deprecating superstar kept making media jokes about his ‘Uncle’ status in his young heroine’s life, the age difference between SRK and Deepika wasn’t the least noticeable. That was our eternally-young Raj from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge courting the 21-year old debutant ‘Dreamy’ girl at 41.

I remember decades ago how ridiculous the great Raj Kapoor looked at 44 romancing the 16-year old debutant the Dream Girl Hema Malini in Sapnon Ka Saudagar . That’s because Raj Saab wasn’t eternally-young like SRK. Also, the Showman never went to the gym. Strangely all of Mr Bachchan’s leading ladies in his heydays were choronolgically compatible with him until at 60-plus directors wrote Black, Cheeni Kum and Nishabd for him. Big B made the power of aging wisdom the criteria for selection.

We’re living in a world where age differences no longer defines human relationships. A lot of eyebrows were raised, and then casually lowered, when our rebellious Riya Sen was seen in social places with the 60-plus litterateur Salman Rushdie. What bothered me about that friendship wasn’t the age but the intellectual disparity.

Sexy Sam on screen serenading blonde call-girls in Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna or Sexy Sallu seeking solace in the Sens of show-world…women just can’t get enough of those wrinkles.

Besides some spine-tickling humour, this Friday’s release Sunday also promises breathtaking action.

Those who know director Rohit Shetty’s idea of entertainment know well that the guy is definitely going to blow up some cars in his film. In Golmaal he blew a dozen cars for an action sequence. And now he has gone further in his latest flick ‘Sunday’.

The film has a gritty car chase sequence in which as many as 19 cars were blown during shooting.

The shooting took place partly in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan and partly on the streets. More than 100 cars were used to create the traffic. The scene showed the film’s leading men Ajay Devgan , Arshad Warsi and Irrfan Khan being chased by goons in cars. Arshad plays the taxi driver.

Rohit, who is the son of yesteryear action director Shetty, says all the precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the actors. But still, the sequence was so risky that he was nervous and worried while shooting it.

A variety of sets were erected around a wide road to recreate a bustling city. Hundreds of people were involved in the shoot. There were multiple camera set-ups to capture shots from different angles. About 1.5 crore rupees were spent in shooting the entire sequence.

And over the period of days during which the sequence was canned, 19 cars were blown to smithereens using controlled explosions.

Rohit says it is one of the best car chase sequences audiences would see in Hindi cinema.

‘Sunday’ is a suspense thriller with a good dose of comedy and action. The film stars Ayesha Takia in the female lead.

The cast of Rohit Shetty’s movie Sunday pulled an unexpected prank on actress Ayesha Takia recently.

The film, a comedy, has Ayesha playing a central character who becomes the prime suspect in a number of murder cases. In keeping with the film’s lighthearted theme, her co-stars from the film decided to play a prank on her recently.

Ayesha was given an invitation for the special screening of the film at Pixion Studios in Bandra. She decided to attend the event with her mother Farida.

But when the actress and her mom turned up at the event, the security guys did not let them through. They told Ayesha that she and her mom were not on the list of invitees.

On top of it all, the security guys looked at the daughter-mother duo with suspicion and insisted on checking their handbags.

Ayesha just could not believe all this was happening to her. She immediately called director Rohit Shetty , but to no use. Frustrated, she was about to walk away from the venue when Arshad Warsi showed up with a 100 watt smile on his face.

Cameras of MTV suddenly appeared from their hiding places and Arshad revealed to Ayesha that she had been made a bakra.

Ayesha took the prank in right spirit and joined the others in laughing at herself.

The Ayesha’s bakra episode will now be shown on MTV. For, she is the channel’s bakra of the month.
